Free old survival patterns
Your survival patterns are part of your story, but they do not have to write your future.
During this stage, you will begin to:
Identify the beliefs and behaviours that keep repeating
Understand the protective purpose behind them
Recognise how past experiences influence present choices
Work compassionately with fear, shame and resistance
Challenge beliefs that no longer reflect who you are
Practise new responses without demanding instant perfection
Lasting change is rarely created through willpower alone. If your nervous system associates change with danger, it may pull you back towards what is familiar — even when the familiar is painful.
As your system becomes safer, you can loosen the grip of old patterns and begin making choices based on the life you want now, rather than on the experiences you had to survive.
The patterns keeping you stuck may once have helped keep you safe
People-pleasing, perfectionism, overthinking, procrastination, hyper-independence and shutting down are often described as self-sabotage. But these behaviours rarely appear without a reason.
Many began as intelligent ways to gain safety, connection, approval, or control during difficult experiences. The problem is not that these patterns exist. The problem is that they may continue operating long after they have stopped being helpful.
Freeing old survival patterns does not mean fighting, shaming or forcibly removing parts of yourself. It means understanding why the pattern developed, recognising what it has been protecting and gradually creating safer ways to respond.
